The basics
Do I have to buy LEAP?
No. LEAP is a crew membership and recognition token.
When you earn LEAP, Sailing Frog's Leap can send it to you by Check.
Why Xaman?
We use Xaman because it supports the XRP Ledger Check system we use to distribute LEAP.
Xaman gives you a clear way to receive and cash a LEAP Check and handles the LEAP trust-line setup when needed.
Using one wallet also lets us give every new crew member the same instructions.
Why do I need XRP?
XRP pays the XRP Ledger's small network fees and supports the wallet's reserve requirement.
You only need a small amount, but network requirements can change.
Is XRP the same as LEAP?
No. XRP is the native asset of the XRP Ledger.
LEAP is the Sailing Frog's Leap crew token that lives on the XRP Ledger.

About the Checks
What is a LEAP Check?
A LEAP Check is a payment feature built into the XRP Ledger.
We use it to offer you LEAP without simply pushing tokens into your wallet.
You choose whether to cash the Check and accept the LEAP.
Why use Checks instead of just sending LEAP?
Checks let you choose whether to accept each LEAP award.
They also let Xaman handle the trust-line setup when needed and give each award its own record on the XRP Ledger.
Do I need to set up LEAP before I receive a Check?
No separate LEAP setup is required before we send the Check.
Xaman guides you through what is needed when you cash it.
Do I have to cash a Check?
No. It is your wallet. A pending Check is an offer of LEAP. You choose whether to cash it and accept the LEAP.
What happens after a LEAP Check is created?
A Check can be waiting, cashed, or canceled. While it is waiting, it appears as LEAP Waiting for You. If you cash it, the LEAP reaches your wallet and the recognition can become part of your Crew Record. If the Check is canceled, it is no longer available to cash and does not count as an earned recognition in your Crew Record.
Can a LEAP Check record why I earned it?
Yes. When we create a LEAP Check, we can use the
CheckCreate transaction's standard XRP Ledger Memos field to record the recognition. LEAP uses entries such as SFL-LEAP/BADGE=NEW-MEMBER, SFL-LEAP/EVENT=LA-CRUZ-BEACH-BONFIRE, or SFL-LEAP/CHALLENGE=LEAP-001.

What does my Crew Record show?
Your Crew Record shows your current LEAP balance and rank, any outstanding LEAP Checks waiting for you, and the LEAP history you have actually earned on the XRP Ledger.
What is LEAP Waiting for You?
It is the list of LEAP Checks that are currently available for you to cash. A Check stays there while it is outstanding and disappears after it is cashed or canceled.
When does something become part of my Crew Record?
A Check-based recognition becomes part of your personal Crew Record after that Check is successfully cashed. A Check that is still waiting or that was canceled does not count as earned.
What happens to old canceled Checks?
They remain part of the public XRP Ledger transaction history, but they are not shown as earned badges or recognitions in your personal Crew Record.

How badges work
What is a badge?
A badge is a permanent crew recognition for something meaningful: a milestone, a contribution, a special status, a voyage, a place, or another part of your story.
Does rank control which badges I can have?
No. Rank is based on how much LEAP you currently hold, while badges record your history. A Deckhand can have a special badge that a higher-ranking member does not.
How is a badge recorded?
Sailing Frog's Leap can offer a badge through a LEAP Check with a standardized memo naming the recognition. When the recipient cashes that Check, the badge becomes part of that member's earned Crew Record.
Does a badge have to add more LEAP?
No. The LEAP amount can be small and symbolic. The important part of the badge can be the recognition and the ledger record that documents it.
What does the badge memo do?
The memo gives the recognition a consistent name inside the LEAP namespace, such as
SFL-LEAP/BADGE=NEW-MEMBER or SFL-LEAP/BADGE=LEAP-OG, so the badge can be identified later from the ledger history.
Does the badge record stay on the XRP Ledger?
Yes. The underlying transactions remain part of the public XRP Ledger history. The Crew Record interprets that history and shows the badges the member has actually earned.
How are badges shown in my Crew Record?
Your Crew Record lists each earned badge once. Badge dates are not the point of the personal record; the important thing is that the recognition is part of your crew history.
Who decides when a badge is earned?
During the pilot, Sailing Frog's Leap defines the badge rules and awards recognition. If the system grows, some recognitions could later be automated.

You do not need to understand any of this to use LEAP. This section is for anyone interested in how LEAP uses the XRP Ledger under the hood.
Memos & Transactions
Where does the memo actually live?
The memo belongs to the
CheckCreate transaction that creates the Check. It does not belong to an individual LEAP token or to the Check object itself. Cashing uses a separate CheckCash transaction, and canceling uses a separate CheckCancel transaction. The original CheckCreate and its memo remain in public ledger history either way.
Does the memo travel with one specific LEAP coin?
No. LEAP is fungible. The memo belongs to the transaction record, not to one individually serialized LEAP unit.

What is the LEAP memo format?
LEAP uses the namespace
SFL-LEAP followed by a category and value: SFL-LEAP/<CATEGORY>=<VALUE>.
What categories does LEAP use?
The current categories are
BADGE, EVENT, and CHALLENGE. Examples include SFL-LEAP/BADGE=LEAP-OG, SFL-LEAP/EVENT=LA-CRUZ-BEACH-BONFIRE, and SFL-LEAP/CHALLENGE=LEAP-001.
Does the XRP Ledger understand what
SFL-LEAP means?
No. The XRP Ledger stores the memo data. SFL-LEAP is the convention Sailing Frog's Leap uses so our software can recognize and organize LEAP records consistently.
Why use a namespace?
It lets LEAP software separate these records from unrelated wallet activity and organize them into badges, events, challenges, the Crew Record, and administrative history.
Privacy and control
Your wallet stays yours
We never need your wallet secrets.
Sailing Frog's Leap only needs your public Xaman wallet address.
Never send us your recovery words, private key, family seed, or recovery phrase.
Is my wallet address private?
No. Your XRP Ledger address and its public transaction history can be seen on the public ledger.
Can Sailing Frog's Leap move my XRP or LEAP?
No. You control your wallet with your private keys.
We cannot move assets from your wallet.
Should I use my main crypto wallet for LEAP?
We recommend that you don't.
A separate Xaman account for LEAP and other public community activity keeps that activity separate from your primary crypto wallet.
